What is the purpose of parenting?

Hey guys, Welcome to another weekly blog! Today I am going to talk about a very interesting topic. I am talking about the purpose of parenting. Children need the guidance of their parents in their life. If they do not have it, it can be harder for them to face some difficulties in life. Fathers play a fundamental role in this situation. We all have different backgrounds and family structures. There are a lot of people who do not feel close to their fathers and others who do. If a dad does not accomplish his role as a father their kids can have some affective deficiencies or not have some important knowledge that fathers are supposed to teach their kids. A father is not just a provider. A real father is someone who tries to do his best to help their children learn important things in life and spend real time with their family.  So, now I would like to explain and analyze some things that a dad should teach their kids to be a good guide for their kids.

First of all, there are some characteristics that a good father should have. Some of them are the ability to provide for and protect their family and prepare their kids for future challenges and difficult situations. In life, we all have to handle a bunch of hard problems, and because of that parents have to be an example of how to face all these situations in a good way. Fathers should teach good habits and attitudes to overcome difficult situations. One example of this is that always when I was sad or angry about something, my dad tried to make me see the positive side of situations and solutions to improve them. I do not live with my parents anymore but when I am feeling sad or overwhelmed, I remember that, and I try to be positive and not get stuck in pessimist thoughts instead of seeking solutions.

Another very important thing that we learned in class was the importance of the feeling of belonging for a kid. One way in which parents can do this is through contact. Parents have to be affective with their kids. If children do not feel belonging, they could try to have attended with a bad attitude. I am from Latinoamerica, and I feel that there it is more common that families to demonstrate a lot of physical love and contact. If someone goes to a family reunion or a (reunion in general) it is normal to say hi with a hug and a kiss on the chick to everyone in the room. In Latinoamerica, people are very expressive, but I feel that here in the United States, it is a little bit colder. Even between family. Sometimes it is still a little bit hard for me to get used to some things in this culture like this situation.

Also, it is very important that fathers can teach good principles and values. As a member of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints, I believe that they also, parents have to teach their kids about the gospel and how to have a relationship with our heavenly father. This should be taught since they are little. In that way, they can grow up in a safe place while they look for and strengthen their testimony.

If fathers provide love, protection, a sense of belonging through contact, strength for future hard situations, and teachings of the gospel, children will be very much prepared for life, and also, they will have a better relationship with their dad.
